The Novo Nordisk Foundation Quantum Computing Programme (NQCP) is expanding its talented and international team to add to its cutting-edge quantum programme in the heart of Copenhagen, Denmark. At the Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen, we are running an international quantum computing programme, funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation, that drives research and innovations at multiple levels - from developing scalable quantum processor technologies to quantum algorithms and applications. The long-term mission of the programme is to develop fault-tolerant quantum computing hardware and quantum algorithms that solve life-science-relevant chemical and biological problems.

Start date is 1/1 2027 or as soon as possible thereafter

The project: NQCP’s mission to enable fault tolerant quantum computing is developed through multiple pilot lines. The superconducting (SC) pilot line connects several NQCP teams and the Quantum Foundry Copenhagen (QFC), including the NQCP Education & Workforce (E&W) team, which will make state-of-the-art SC quantum chips available for training in the advanced Quantum Training Lab (QTL) at the Niels Bohr Institute.

Responsibilities: NQCP E&W seeks an expert in control and readout (C&R). The QTL has 5 research-grade milli Kelvin cryostats and host several university courses, pre- and post-university training and visits. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the ongoing C&R development of the QTL cryostat-based experiments and developing multi-qubit protocols for validation, verification, and training.

The candidate will collaborate closely with the NQCP and QFC SC pilot line on the development and use of the C&R for the pilot line and the QTL. In addition, the candidate will engage in international collaboration.

We are looking for the following qualifications: We envision that you have a MSc or PhD in quantum computing and have first-hand experience with C&R for SC qubit experiments. You are eager to extend your experience and become an expert in C&R for advanced superconducting qubit experiments. You thrive in an ambitious and collaborative working environment and enjoy being a part of a large team with a common mission. You engage naturally with colleagues, students and visitors and have a deep desire to extend your passion for quantum science and technology to the coming generations of students.

Why Us? Joining NQCP now, you will get involved in a well-established and ambitious programme, which offers excellent opportunities to build a career in advancing quantum computing. We want to make Denmark a world leader in quantum research, and we hope to attract people from all over the world.

Life in Denmark is supported with strong social services (free universal healthcare, free/subsidised language courses, paid parental leave, subsidised day care institutions and excellent public schools). Our work culture is very egalitarian and prioritises work life balance. Dual career families are the norm, and workplaces offer flexibility to support everyone in having both an exciting career and good family time. Danish cities are known for having excellent infrastructure, for example through widespread bike path networks. We can also offer a thriving food-scene, excellent museums, and beautiful natural scenery.

Terms of salary and employment: The employment and salary are made in accordance with the Circular on the Collective Agreement concerning academics in the state sector concluded between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).

Employment will be as academic officer or special consultant. The salary is based on seniority. Negotiation for salary supplement is possible. The working hours are 37 hours per week on average and the working hours are flexible. The position is for 4 years.

Appointment will be subject to receipt of a security clearance.
