The group is responsible for teaching activities in the Master’s programme in Cyber Security, which is taught in English and has more than 100 active Danish and international students. Moreover, the group is strongly engaged in community-building activities, with the AAU Copenhagen campus serving as a hub for weekly CTFs and ethical hacking activities involving dozens of participants.
Your work tasks
You will lead the academic direction of cyber security research and education. The role combines independent academic leadership with close collaboration across the department, within the section, with other research environments, external organisations, and international partners.
Your research and teaching will address one or more areas within applied cryptography, IoT and/or cloud security, security and privacy for big data and machine learning, risk management and threat modelling, mobile security, secure software development, and systems security and privacy. You will initiate and lead research projects, secure and manage external research funding, publish research at an international level, and develop collaborations with industry, public-sector organisations, and universities in Denmark and abroad.
You will teach and supervise students at bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels, develop courses and teaching materials, and contribute to the planning and coordination of programmes built on problem-based learning. You will also supervise doctoral researchers and early-career colleagues, contribute to relevant committees and academic activities, and take part in developing the department’s research and educational priorities. International collaboration, including participation in networks, conferences, and joint research activities, forms an integral part of the position.
Your competencies
You hold a doctoral degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or a closely related field. You have documented original research contributions at an international level within cyber security and a strong publication record in recognised journals and conferences. You can demonstrate a proven track record of attracting, establishing, and managing externally funded research activities, and you have the academic judgement required to develop a coherent research agenda with clear societal and technological relevance.
You bring substantial experience in university teaching, supervision, course development, examination activities, and the development of educational programmes. Familiarity with problem-based learning is relevant, particularly because the role includes contributing to programmes in which students work collaboratively on complex and practice-oriented challenges. You communicate confidently in English, both orally and in writing, and you are willing to develop Danish language skills over time.
You set a clear academic direction while creating constructive working relationships with students, colleagues, and collaborators. You contribute with sound judgement, curiosity, and an ability to turn research ideas into well-organised projects and partnerships. You support the development of early-career researchers, engage openly across disciplines, and help maintain a respectful and collaborative research culture.
