Coatings Formulation Specialist - DTU Chemical Engineering

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Coatings Formulation Specialist to strengthen CoaST’s capabilities in advanced paint and coating technologies. 

The job
In this role, you will act as a key advisor on formulation strategy and contribute to the development of innovative coating solutions through hands‑on project work and supervision of researchers. Each year, around 30 students and researchers join our group - not only to learn about coatings and paint formulation, but to develop genuine expertise in the field.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise, mentor, and train students and researchers - from core formulation principles to advanced and technically challenging formulation tasks. You will also be responsible for delivering our internal 5 ECTS Coatings Formulation Course.
• Shape and advance CoaST’s coatings formulation strategy, ensuring our methodologies, models, and tools remain cutting‑edge and aligned with the latest scientific and industrial developments.
• Contribute to research and innovation in next‑generation coating systems together with our researchers, providing expert insight that drives enhanced functionalities and performance improvements.
• Drive selected formulation projects, delivering robust and innovative coating solutions that support the strategic needs of CoaST.

We are looking for a colleague who combines deep technical expertise with a collaborative mindset - someone who can guide and lead others, inspire new ideas, and deliver high‑quality formulation work. The ideal candidate thrives in mentoring and working closely with young researchers, helping them grow their skills and develop confidence within the field.

You will report to the Technical Manager and work closely with a team of skilled supporting technicians.

Our expectations of you

• Proven expertise: Industrial R&D experience in coatings formulation.
• Educational background: BSc or MSc in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field.
• Personal qualities: Highly motivated, structured, and ambitious. You enjoy solving technical challenges and work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Communication and personal effectiveness: You communicate clearly and confidently, and you thrive in a dynamic, fast‑paced work environment.

Salary and appointment terms 
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC). In addition, supplements can be negotiated in accordance with DTU’s salary structure for academic staff employed in technical-administrative positions at DTU (AC TAP): www.inside.dtu.dk/en/human-resources/during-employment/salary/salary-structures. 

You are employed as an Academic Officer or Senior Officer. The position is a full-time position. Starting date is 1 February 2027 (or according to mutual agreement).

The workplace is DTU Lyngby Campus.
