Senior Bioprocess Engineer Site MSAT
Bavarian Nordic · CVR 16271187
Join Site MSAT and help improve the performance of established vaccine manufacturing processes.
We are looking for a Senior Bioprocess Engineer who will combine process understanding, manufacturing data and engineering insight to deliver measurable improvements in yield, cycle time, capacity and robustness across our Rabies and TBE processes at the BNK site.
About the role
As our Senior Bioprocess Engineer, you will drive process optimization and continuous improvement throughout the lifecycle of our vaccine processes.
You will use data, scientific understanding and engineering methods to identify performance gaps, understand sources of variability and translate opportunities into practical, sustainable changes. Working closely with
Manufacturing and technical functions, you will lead improvement initiatives from problem definition and analysis through testing, implementation and verification of benefits. Equipment knowledge will be important where equipment–process interactions affect performance, but the focus of the role is the process and its outcomes.
Your key responsibilities
- Analyse process performance using continued process verification data, statistics and data visualisation.
- Lead improvements in yield, cycle time, throughput, capacity and process robustness.
- Apply structured problem solving and Lean methods to identify root causes and resolve process challenges.
- Build process understanding through manufacturing data, scientific knowledge and shop-floor insights.
- Design engineering studies, trials and scale-down models to evaluate process improvements.
- Translate findings into recommendations, business cases and implementation plans with measurable outcomes.
- Implement and sustain improvements through risk assessment, change control, validation and updated control strategies.
- Provide technical expertise for complex deviations, investigations and CAPAs.
- Support technology transfer, scale-up, process introduction and requirements for equipment, automation and digital solutions.
- Collaborate across Manufacturing, technical and quality functions, Global MSAT and external partners.
What you bring
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in biochemical, chemical, bioprocess, pharmaceutical engineering or a related discipline.
- Experience in process optimisation, manufacturing science, process engineering or continuous improvement within GMP biopharmaceutical manufacturing, preferably vaccines or biologics.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including manufacturing-data analysis, process trending and statistical methods.
- A proven ability to improve yield, cycle time, capacity, process robustness or cost efficiency.
- A solid understanding of bioprocess unit operations and engineering principles.
- Working knowledge of GMP, validation, change control, investigations, risk management and data integrity.
- A collaborative, pragmatic approach and the ability to turn technical insights into clear recommendations and lead cross-functional improvements.
- Experience with downstream processing, Lean, bottleneck analysis, design of experiments, scale-down models, technology transfer or scale-up is an advantage.
Why join us?
You will join a collaborative Site MSAT team with the opportunity to shape how process optimisation is delivered for established vaccine products.
Your work will turn manufacturing data and process knowledge into tangible improvements that strengthen product quality, process capability and reliable supply.
The role offers meaningful technical ownership, close access to commercial operations and the freedom to combine scientific thinking with practical engineering solutions.
